Free Agent Profiles - First Basemen

This year;s free agent first basemen,

Sean Casey - Casey has had an up and down career. The injuries have been the main root of that problem. Casey played a good 143 healthy games, and hit .296 with 4 HR and 54 RBI. The power numbers aren't very good, but he's 34 now, and has had some bad injuries, so if he can DH somewhere and stay healthy, he'll be an ok one year $6M or so comitment.

Tony Clark - The 36 year old Clark is coming off of an ok season, on a very good Arizona team last season. Clark is an ok 1B who'll play 3B once in a while. The D-Backs haven't made it clear yet if he'll be back, but he'll end up somewhere for one year and a couple million bucks.

Darin Erstad - Erstad is one of those players whose careers have taken a step back because of injuries. Erstad is a pretty good 1B/CF option when he's healthy. He'll probably get a one year deal with some incentives from a team with an available DH spot. Devil Rays or Royals?

Ryan Klesko - Klesko will likely be headed to a team outside the SF area. Klesko is a decen utility option for a team that needs someone like him. He eplayed 116 games last season, and for the most part was healthy.

Mike Lamb - Lamb is probably the best free agent option at 1B. Lamb is another one of those 1B/3B guys, who get injured fairly easily. Lamb should likely get a two year deal worth around $5M or so a year.

Doug Mientkiewicz - Mientkiewicz is probably the best defensive free agent 1B out there. Mientkiewicz will give you a usefull late inning defensive replacement. He should get one of those one year $2M or so deals with games played incentives.
