The Jays filled their shortstop problem, sort of, by trading two minor league arms to Oakland for SS Marco Scutaro. Scutaro is expected to do some kind of a platoon thing with John McDonald. Scutaro did better at the plate than Johnny Mac last year, and is ok with the glove. Meanwhile McDonald is a Gold Glove caliber shortstop with minimal hitting ability. McDonald signed a two year extension with the Jays a while back, and will make $1.9M this season. Scutaro will make $1.55M.
A couple other Jays notes:
- The Jays have had some contact with Matt Clement. JP Riccardi has "Always liked Matt."
- Sal Fasano may be brought back to back up Gregg Zuan next season.
- Reed Johnson will be the leadoff hitter next season, meaning that Matt Stairs will be a back up. I don't know where that puts Adam Lind. Maybe on the trade block?
