Jays Trade for Scutaro

The Jays filled their shortstop problem, sort of, by trading two minor league arms to Oakland for SS Marco Scutaro. Scutaro is expected to do some kind of a platoon thing with John McDonald. Scutaro did better at the plate than Johnny Mac last year, and is ok with the glove. Meanwhile McDonald is a Gold Glove caliber shortstop with minimal hitting ability. McDonald signed a two year extension with the Jays a while back, and will make $1.9M this season. Scutaro will make $1.55M.

A couple other Jays notes:

  • The Jays have had some contact with Matt Clement. JP Riccardi has "Always liked Matt."
  • Sal Fasano may be brought back to back up Gregg Zuan next season.
  • Reed Johnson will be the leadoff hitter next season, meaning that Matt Stairs will be a back up. I don't know where that puts Adam Lind. Maybe on the trade block?
