Odds and Ends

Random Rumors from a busy Hump Day.
  • The Orioles don't have any interest in Jose Guillen. On Monday, I noted that the Orioles and Royals were leading for Guillen.
  • The Angels aren't going to be looking at trading for Johan Santana. Instead, the club has it's sights set on Miguel Cabrera and Miguel Tejada.
  • An unconfirmed rumor has the Cubs offering Kaz Matsui three years and $14M. The Astros and Rockies are still in on Kaz.
  • The White Sox might rather trading for Coco Crisp, rather than signing Aaron Rowand. Pretty easy decision here. Rowand will probably cost the Sox five years and $60M, and Crisp will likely only cost a decent prospect. Josh Fields would likely be too much for the Sox, so maybe Jose Contreas?
  • Huroki Kuroda may want a four year deal, seeing as he is believed to be the best free agent pitcher on the market.
  • Scott Boras may hold back on offers to Kyle Lohse, and than sell him for five years. Five years for Lohse. This is a crazy market.
  • If Mark Prior is non-tendered, than it is believed that almost every team in the league will be interested.
  • The Pirates may try trading Matt Morris. Morris seemed like an okay pickup from the Giants for OF Rajai Davis, but now is a pretty dumb acquisition.
  • The Cardinals have interest in Jack Wilson, Ceasar Izturis, and Miguel Tejada. The David Eckstein era in St. Louis is likely over.
  • The Mets like Dan Haren and Joe Blanton as trade candidates. The Mets defineatly have the pieces for a trade. Lastings Milledge and Aaron Heilman wasn't enough for Haren. Maybe Carlos Gomez could get something done.
  • The Mets also might consider Livan Hernendez as a number three or four option.
  • The D'Backs are believed to no longer be looking at an anual payroll, instead a three year plan. Probably in the $230-240M range. That'd be about what the Yankees spend a year. The D'Backs will likely have more money to spend each year than before.
  • Scott Linebrink's deal is official. He also gets some kind of no-trade protection.
  • The Rangers might be looking at signing Mike Cameron to a two year deal, or Kosuke Fukudome for three. Both would make sense and help fill the Rangers outfield hole.
  • If the Rangers are going to sign some free agent pitchers, than they will likely be rebuilding projects. Freddy Garcia, Matt Clement and Bartolo Colon come to mind.
  • The Brewers don't seem likely to trade for a high end closer like Joe Nathan or Chad Cordero. Instead, the Brewers would like to sign Troy Percival to a one year deal to close in '08.
