Valverde Wants Big Bucks

D'Backs closer Jose Valverde is coming off of a league leading 47 saves last season, and wants to be rewarded for his performance. Considering that he made a mere $2M in arbitration in '08, his first year of eligability. Valverde is believed to be looking for a four year deal in the $50M range. Valverde looks like he wants to be paid like a Mariano Rivera, instead of a player with four years of service time. If Valverde can't get the nice multiyear deal, than he will be looking for $10M in '08. The D'Backs are believed to have offered aroound $4M for '08. If no agreement is reached, than an arbitration date will be happening in the near future, and with the deal that Mariano Rivera and Francisco Cordero got, I'm scared to see what Valverde could get.
